I'm digital humanities librarian and head of the Humanities Digital Information Service at Stanford University, where I've worked since 1997. My humanities background is in Russian literature, with related interests in children's literature (Russian and Anglo-American), and translation theory and practice. My technology background includes working knowledge of various scripting and database languages, but am most practiced in markup and metadata for library and humanities work (Text Encoding Initiative -- a community of XML practice; MARC; METS-MODS; and others). I'm also the local host of the international conference "Digital Humanities 2011" at Stanford, to be held June 17-23, 2011.
